Cinderella's Christmas Lights

Howdy folks,

Hanging lights on your castle this weekend?  Well Cinderella's team has already finished the job and let me tell you, they look GOOD!  If you have ever walked into Disney World and marveled at the beauty of Cinderella's Castle, you absolutely have to see it during the holiday season.   All covered in bright lights, the castle looks like it has been dipped in sparkly diamond dust.  Of course, the colors still change, so the beauty comes in a variety of colors - I promise you, it is well worth the trip in just to see the castle.  Usually comes on around 6ish pm every night and will be on display through the end of the Christmas season.

Ahh - so pretty...

Wish I had these on my house!

Wishes adds to the Beauty - Merry Christmas!!!

See ya tomorrow...

Fridays Flavors - Club Cool

Well Thanksgiving is now over and we move into the Christmas season.  I for one love the Christmas season, especially around Walt Disney World.  They do a beautiful job of decorating and really making it feel like Christmas time in sunny Florida.  Throughout the season we will be bringing you some snapshots of the holiday happenings around the World.  Hope you enjoy!

Today it's Friday Flavors! Even though you are probably still stuffed, like that turkey you ate yesterday, it's time to highlight some kind of culinary delight (or maybe sometimes not so delightful).   Since you probably ate so much yesterday I thought I would highlight a drink.

If you are hanging out at Epcot and are ready for a little break and something to wet your whistle I suggest you stop by Club Cool.  Inside Club Cool you will get to sample cokes from around the world.  There is no charge for this taste test and some of the different drinks are very interesting.  Take the Beverly for example.

On the count of 3 take a drink! 1,2,3

How was it?

No not good!!!

Will anyone notice if I spit it back out?

Worse thing EVER!!!

UGH!!!!

Don't let our pictures fool you, it really does taste great! Go check out Club Cool and see for yourself, trust me....

Saturday Showcase - Big Thunder Mountain

I asked our 8 year old son what his favorite ride at the Magic Kingdom was and his answer was THUNDER MOUNTAIN hands down.  His words were - "it's fun, fast and I just really like it."  Thunder mountain is a runaway train ride that takes you on an exciting adventure.  With big dips, dashes through bat caves, and a spin through a flooded town,  this ride earns it's nickname - "The Wildest Ride in the Wilderness."  The backdrop is a beautiful, reddish mountain that looks really cool, especially when there is a thunder storm behind it.  Thunder Mountain is a really neat night time ride, so make sure you ride it after sundown.  If you time it right, you can even see some of the fireworks over the castle from the ride.

Tuesdays Tips - Sunscreen and Sunglasses

You might be thinking that it is getting close to winter and it is true that the sun isn't as powerful as it is in the summer, but you still should wear sunscreen and bring along sunglasses.  The Florida sun is still pretty strong and you can get sunburn if you are out in it all day.  As for the sunglasses - well it is just bright out there!  When we are having one of our "can't believe this weather day with blue skies and not a cloud in sight" days, sunglasses come in handy.  You don't want to be squinty in all those fabulous vacation pictures do you?  Plus you could get a headache from all the squinting you will be doing if you aren't wearing a pair.  Forgot yours? No problem! Disney sells sunglasses in many theme park and resort shops.

Thursday Thoughts

General Conversation will be the focus of Thursdays.  It can be commentary on anything related to Disney.

Let's get started!

I was having a hard time coming up with something to write about and we decided to head over to some resorts to walk around for bit.  We stumbled across the gingerbread house going up in the Grand Floridian and I decided that would be a great "thought" for today.  Christmas is just around the corner, ok really it's Thanksgiving that is just around the corner, but Disney is getting all dressed up for Christmas.  The gingerbread creations they have in some of the resorts are just amazing!  We stood and watched them putting together the victorian display that they have put up the last 13 years.  It will take them 3 days to complete and the store will be open on November 14.  You will be able to purchase gingerbread men (of course), small gingerbread houses and other gingerbread items.
There were a lot of cast members helping and even the Grand Floridian executive chef was lending a hand.  We spoke to a really nice cast member from GA.  She answered our many questions like...what kind of frosting do you use? - Royal icing (powdered sugar, egg whites and creme of tartar), is the whole thing made of gingerbread? - No there is a wooden structure to hold it up, the gingerbread would be too heavy,  Does the icing taste good? - It wasn't her favorite but it wasn't too bad once it dried.  After our many questions she gave us a sample of part of the gingerbread, it was actually pretty good!

That's it for today - have a Magical night!

Magic Moments Monday

Mondays will be all about the "Magic" of Disney.  Disney has moments that happen unexpectedly and they call them Magical Moments.  Mondays are when we want to share our version of Magic Moments - they can be anything from playing a game in one of the stores with a cast member to guessing trivia to seeing a rainbow over Cinderella's Castle. Magic Moments can happen anywhere and we want to hear yours.  So please send us your stories about Magical Moments and we will post them on Mondays. We will also be sharing some of our stories with you as well.

Have a "Magical" time reading...

Tuesday Tips

Hello-It's been a few days since we have written. We have been thinking about the blog a lot and how we can use it in a fun and informative way. So we came up with an idea of themeing each day. So Tuesdays are going to be Tuesdays Tips. You will have to check back to see what each day is (Wednesdays are already themed).
Here is today's tip:
This is probably the most important tip we have to offer. DRINK WATER! It gets hot in Florida, especially in the summer. But even now it is important to stay hydrated. People often don't realize how quickly you can become dehydrated. You can get water from the numerous water fountains or by refilling a water bottle throughout the day. If you need you can get a cup of water (at no cost) any location that sells fountain beverages. even Disney knows how important drinking water is.

Rockin' at the Magic Kingdom

Howdy folks - just a quick thought for you to consider while at the Magic Kingdom,

One of our favorite things to do is sit in rocking chairs at the Magic Kingdom and people watch.  Of course this is only practical if you are really tired and need a break, or are a season pass holder who goes often and can afford to sit on the sidelines and watch the action.  There are a few spots that you can find nice wooden rocking chairs just waiting to be used.
Liberty Square - look for two rocking chairs around the corner from the entrance to the Hall of Presidents - they are up on a little porch.  They provide a great view of the people passing on their way to frontier land as well as a firsthand view of those exiting the Hall of Presidents show.
Tom Sawyer's Island - Look for Aunt Polly's - it's a little sitting area perfect for sitting down to a quick snack.  There used to only be two rockers here, and often you'd have to sit in non-rockers and wait you turn (come mid-day this was quite a comical process - whenever the rocking chairs would empty, the people in the non-rockers would slide down two chairs to the right in a sitting cue).  Disney got wise to the habit though and at last check there were 8 or so rockers sitting out.   One nice thing you can do here, if your kids are old enough, is to grab a seat in your rocker while the kids explore the island - just make sure they know not to get on the raft home without you!
Briar Patch Gift Shop - Located just outside the Splash Mountain area, this rocking spot is special because the rocking chairs are inside where there is air conditioning of course, it is a bit rude to stay here too long and you will likely find them occupied 9 out of 10 times in the summer - but still a worthy spot for a quick rest and rock.  Your view is somewhat limited, however, to what you can see out the front door and to those guests in the shop.

There might be more, but that's all I can remember at the moment - couple of tips for you though, before you begin people watching in your rockers:
Time it right - make sure you have a bit of protection from the sun - our Florida rays get you quite warm, and in a hurry to
Grab a drink - it's nice to sit with a glass of something cool come mid-day or (my preference) a cup of steaming coffee in the early hours.
Attitude is everything - people watching is only fun when the attitudes of your subjects are good - early in the day, before everyone begins to get super tired tends to be a bit more enjoyable - less meltdowns to watch.
So if you want to take a little break from walking, I encourage you to grab a chair and have a look at all the other people who are having the time of their lives - some of the expressions and joy you witness will truly touch your heart.

- George

PS - One of the games we like to play is to sit on the rockers by Hall of presidents and stay perfectly still - you'd be amazed at how many people stop and try to figure out if you are real or not - especially the kids - but you really need to work at it if you want to fool them.

Welcome

Welcome to our blog!  We hope you enjoy viewing our photos and reading the tips, reviews, stories and all things Disney.  Our adventure began in October of 2007 with our first vacation to Disney.  We packed up our family of 8 and headed to Florida from Kansas.  That trip was magical and by the time it was over we had already booked another trip for May of 2008.  While we were on that trip we starting joking about actually moving to Florida, it would be cheaper then continuing taking vacations with our large family.  By our 3rd trip in October 2008 we had been on Disney property a total of over 30 days.  That was our last trip.  In May of 2009 we sold most of what we had and headed south.  That is an adventure to tell another time.  Our first house in Florida was beautiful, we were blessed enough to live on a golf course about 20 min from Disney.  We could even see the fireworks from a distance, we thought we would never get any closer.  Well we were wrong! We now live less then 2 miles from the Magic Kingdom and can see fireworks almost over our heads.  We are truly living our dream.  We spend a lot of time at the parks as well as exploring the resorts, Downtown Disney and the other places Disney has to offer.  Our friends are always asking us for tips or reviews on different things we experience, so we decided to start this blog and share our adventures with everyone.  So stop by often and see what new and crazy things we are up to.

If you are getting ready for a trip - or just thinking about taking one - we hope that you can find inspiration and excitement here - as well as some insight to help you get prepped for your trip.  Oh - and for all you locals out there - this blog is for you too!  Like us, we know you have great stories that simply need to be shared.
We don't want this blog to be just about us, so send us your stories and pictures.  We will try to post them as well.  Not all submissions will make it, but we will do our best to put them in.
